Akka Gets an Oct. 30 Netflix Date, Radhika Apte Leads
Netflix has set Oct. 30 for Akka, a series led by Radhika Apte with Keerthy Suresh. The teaser, the creators and what the streamer has said so far.

Netflix and YRF Entertainment have set Oct. 30 as the premiere date for Akka, a 1980s gangster series with Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh as rival queens. The teaser arrived on Oct. 17, which was also Keerthy Suresh's birthday, according to the Yash Raj Films release.
What was announced
The official note describes Akka as an epic gangster saga where women take centre stage. It is set in Pernuru, a fictional kingdom shaped by generations of women who built, governed and protected it. The teaser introduces Keerthy Suresh as Bhawani and Radhika Apte as Rudra, whom the release calls two formidable women at the heart of the city.
The series is produced by YRF Entertainment, with Aditya Chopra, Akshaye Widhani and Yogendra Mogre as executive producers. Dharmaraj Shetty directs and writes it, and it is his directorial debut. The key cast also lists Tanvi Azmi.
What The Week adds
The Week reports that the date comes after a year-long gap since Netflix first teased the show at its Next on Netflix India event on Feb. 3, 2025. Its summary of the plot says a mysterious outsider arrives in Pernuru and threatens the order of the gangster queens, setting up a story of power struggles, revenge and loyalty. The Week also calls it YRF Entertainment's biggest streaming project so far, with close attention to the look of the 1980s. That is the outlet's description, not an official figure.
The same report names other cast members, including Poornima Indrajith, Vishak Nair, Dinesh Prabhakar and Karthika Muraleedharan.
Where it fits for Radhika Apte
The release names Radhika Apte as Rudra, one of the two lead gangster queens, opposite Keerthy Suresh as Bhawani. The Times of India describes the teaser as a 1980s gangster drama that introduces both characters. Netflix has announced Oct. 30 as the premiere date, and the sources we found do not say whether the date differs by country.
The world of the series
The official note stresses tradition and rivalry. Its opening line reads, "In Pernuru, traditions run deep, rivalries run deeper, and the women who rule it answer to no one." The Week calls the setting a matriarchal society and says it promises a story unlike many traditional gangster dramas, and describes the story as an original fiction.
What to watch for
The teaser is brief, and neither the release nor the coverage lists the number of episodes. The creative promise is a matriarchal world with its own rules, which is unusual for a gangster story. Whether it lands will depend on writing and performance that audiences will only judge after Oct. 30.
What we could not confirm
We could not confirm the number of episodes, their length or the languages of the dubbed versions, because none of the sources we found list them. We could not confirm the claim that this is YRF Entertainment's biggest streaming project, which comes from The Week alone. The Week's cast list contains Keerthy Suresh twice and appears to contain a typographical slip, so we only used the names that appear to be clear. We did not watch the teaser. The TOI report was available to us only as a headline and snippet, and we used it for the character names, which match the official release.
