Hrithik Roshan's brief appearance in Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has become one of the film's talking points since it opened on Oct. 15. At the same time, fans keep asking about his own Krrish 4. This explainer separates what has been reported from what has been denied or left open.

The cameo

The Telegraph India reports that first-day viewers praised Hrithik's special appearance in Jailer 2, writing on X that it was "pure fire." The paper notes that Shah Rukh Khan and Nandamuri Balakrishna had been rumoured to appear but that Hrithik made the special appearance. News18 reports that a leaked scene showing him stepping out of a sports car at a police station went viral, and that fans compared his look with Vikram Vedha.

News18 adds that the appearance reunites him with Rajinikanth after four decades. It says the two earlier appeared together in the 1986 film Bhagwaan Dada, when Hrithik was a child actor playing the adopted son of Rajinikanth's character. These are the outlets' reports of fan reaction and film history, and we have not seen the film.

Box office context

Jailer 2 is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Sacnilk's weekend table puts it at Rs 144.05 crore net in India across its first three days, and India TV, citing the same tracker, puts the worldwide gross at Rs 321 crore. These are tracker estimates.

Krrish 4: what is on record

Krrish 4 was announced in March 2025, when Yash Raj Films said Hrithik would direct as well as star and that it would be produced by Aditya Chopra with Rakesh Roshan.

The Times of India reported in February 2026, citing Sacnilk, that the film had stalled over a budget disagreement, with Hrithik reportedly seeking around Rs 500 crore and Yash Raj reportedly preferring Rs 350 crore. That was a report based on unnamed sources.

In June, Times Now and Cinema Express carried Rakesh Roshan's response in an interview with Mid-Day. He called the Rs 500 crore claim "nonsense," said the film had not been shelved and that there were no issues between him, Hrithik and Aditya Chopra. He said the script was nearly final and the team planned to start shooting by the end of 2026, and he attributed delays to Hrithik's busy schedule with his production banner.

What this means

The two accounts conflict: one report of a budget dispute, one on-record denial from the film's producer-side. Neither has been followed by an official start date. With 2026 nearly over, the statement that shooting would begin by year-end remains an aim and not a fact.

What we could not confirm

We could not confirm the budget figures or the dispute, which rest on unnamed sources and were denied by Rakesh Roshan. We could not confirm whether Krrish 4 will start shooting before the end of 2026, as no newer update has been published in the sources we read. We could not confirm the length of Hrithik's Jailer 2 appearance, and the viral clip is described by outlets but was not verified by us. Hrithik has not commented on Krrish 4 in the coverage we reviewed.
